Welcome New Mentor Team Families! I'm excited that your rower is going to be on the Mentor Team this year! I wanted to check in about some day-to-day logistics for those on the Mentor Team.
In general, Mentor Rowers work between two teams - the Beginner Team and the Juniors Team. For parents, you also get to work with the Juniors Team parents, as well as helping the Beginner Team Parents understand what's going on.
From a coaching perspective, I think of the Juniors and Mentors together when planning because they have the same schedule and opportunities. Therefore, the Mentor Rowers on in the Juniors Team in iCrew.
However, becuase they also work with the Beginners, and I want them getting to know the Beginners and rowing with the Beginners, I also have them in the Beginner Team in iCrew.
To keep this simple, when you are marking attendance - you ONLY have to mark attendance for Juniors Team Practices and Events.
Like iCrew, Mentor Rowers and Parents will also be in both Juniors GroupMe and the Beginner/Rec GroupMe. This allows rowers and parents to keep tabs of what it going on in both groups.
For practices, Mentor rowers will be rowing with both Juniors Rowers and Beginner Rowers. This is really important learning experience foer both groups. When i send out lineups, Mentor Rowers will know if they are rowing with the Beginners or the Juniros that day. If they are rowing with the Juniors, practice ends at 7:15p. If they are rowing with the Beginners, they can leave at 6:45p with the Beginner Rowers. Hopefully we will be on time, but most of you know from last year that sometimes the Beginners run behind, especially at the beginning of the season.
Regattas are priced separately just in case we don't have a boat that makes sense for a rower. I don't belive you should be charged for regattas that you are not attending. If you do all the regattas, plus the optional strength training program, the fees are right around the same as what the Juniros team pays.
Please mark attendance for regattas as soon as possible. That gives us time to plan the boats and ensure that we have opportunties for the rowers that are attending.
