When you arrive for drop off, please angle park to your right in the grass near the boat trailer or in front of the red pole barn/garage. If you don't see anyone when you arrive, come to the white house.
I want to let you know that for some of our activities, our older rowers may be driving some of our younger rowers. We will make sure we are following Illinois guidelines for how many people can be in their cars, however, if for any reason you are not comfortable with your rower being driven by a one of the older rowers and you prefer that they be in a car with a coach or adult chaperone, please let me know that.
During camp, the rowers may be particiating in non-rowing water activities such as (but not limited to) swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, and tubing. Rowers will be wearing life jackets for all boating-related activities. The swimming area is zero-depth and sand bottom. An adult will be supervising all swimming activites, but there will be no lifeguard on duty. Some of these activites may not be covered under Sweeps & Sculls liability insurace so your personal insurance would be in effect should something happen. If you do not want your rower to particpate in these activites, please contact Coach Sue with specific information about what you prefer they do not participate in. If I do not hear from you with specific instructions, then I will assume your rower has your approval to participate in these activites as long as they are comfortable (Your rower will not be required to do any of these additional activites).
(Beginner Rowers from Sunday, June 9 to Tuesday, June 11)
Each year in June, our rowers have the opportunity to participate in an overnight camp in Michigan. Camp is a great way for rowers to get some great experience, improve their skills and try some new things! The camp is held on Coach Sue's family property on Corey Lake in Three Rivers, Michigan.
Fee (full week): $385
Beginner Team Fee (2 Days): $175
To Sign Up: Corey Lake Camp is in iCrew as a regular session on June 9. Please just mark your attendance for that session. Parents, if you are willing to chaperone, please email me!
Chaperones: We do need chaperones to run this camp. Chaperones do not pay, but do help with supervision while the rowers are on land, and with cooking for the group during the week. We do have WiFi and there are some times that chaperones could get some work done. We always need male chaperones! If you are a dad and want to come help out, we could use your help!
** BEGINNER TEAM CHAPERONES** We MUST have at least one Beginner Team parent come and chaperone on Sunday through Tuesday in order to include the Beginner Team in this camp.
Accommodations: Accomodations are in shared rooms in cabins. Typically 2-4 rowers per room. This is a co-ed camp, but we do have girls rooms and boys rooms (or depending on numbers possibly a girls cabin and boys cabin). Per our club guidelines, we do our best to put rowers in rooms with others that are within 3 years of their age. A chaperone sleeps in each cabin, either in their own room or in the front room of the cabin. We will do room assignments before camp and depending on the room configureation, we may ask some rowers bring air mattresses.
Pre-Camp Boat Loading - Thursday before Regionals
We will try to load boats when we load for regionals again like we did last year.
Post-Camp Boat Unloading - TBD
Please stay tuned for information on unloading boats. I'm not sure how that is going to work yet. We may leave boats loaded until Beginner Camp week, or we may unload after camp.
Sunday, June 9 - CAMP DROP OFF (all campers)
Drop off - 3:00p Eastern Time (or later) - Rowers can arrive any time after 3:00p Eastern Time. I would love to have MS rowers and those that have not been to camp before there between 3p and 4p Eastern Time so we can go over camp rules and how things will work. Everyone else can arrive starting at 3p Eastern Time as well. Please just send a quick note in the Corey Lake Camp GroupMe to let us know when you will be arriving. Unless you get stuck in traffice, I would like everyone to arrive no later than 10p Eastern Time.
Dinner - 6:30p Eastern Time - We will have dinner around 6:30p. If you are planning to arrive after about 7:30p, there will be food available, but you may just have to make yourself a plate. I just want everyone to know when dinner is so you can plan accordingly.
Tuesday, June 11 - MS Rower Pick Up between 4:00p and 5:00p
If you need to pick up earlier or later, just let me know. This time can be somewhat flexible. We are typically getting ready to go out for our late afternoon row around 5p.
Saturday, June 15 - Pick up between 12:00p and 2:00p
Sadly, there will be no regatta at the end of camp this year. The Grand Regatta in Grand Rapids moved their date to June 29, 2024. This is too late for us to try to hold camp as the boat traffic on the lake will be increasing by then.
Pick up will be on Saturday between Noon and 2p. We will be packed up and cleaned up on Saturday morning so everyone will be ready to go.
Please pack for the weather. It looks like it is going to be a nice week, so plan for warm weather and changes of clothes when you get wet/sweaty. We can do laundry in a pinch, but it's easier to plan to bring what you need. I would like everyone to FOR SURE bring sun protection this year. Sun block, rash guard/UV shirts, hat, etc. It is going to be warm and sunny all week AND at the regatta. Also please be sure you have a water bottle!
Please also be aware that we wet launch the boats at camp, which means that rowers have to get in the water in order to launch their boats. The shoreline at Corey Lake is sandy and rocky, so it is helpful to have some kind of athletic sandals like Tevas, Keens, Chacos, etc. that can go in the water. These are also helpful for years that we take a trip to the Warren Dunes. These do not have to be expensive shoes, but those are helpful. For wet launching, rowers still put socks on after they are in the boat.
The packing list is below, but you can also download it here: Packing List Download >>
MEDICATIONS - please see the bottom of the packing list for instructions about medications. This applies to ALL medications, including over the counter medications. I have also attached the OTC release form. If you would like us to be able to administer OTC medications to your rower, please complete that form and bring it with you. OTC Release Form Download >>

Sadly, there will be no regatta this year at the end of camp. The Grand Regatta moved their date to June 29, 2024 which is too late for us to try to have camp (there will be too much boat traffic on the lake by then).
ATHLETE DROP-OFF & VEHICLE PARKING
FREE Parking and Athlete drop-off will be at:
LMCU Whitecaps Baseball Stadium
4500 West River Drive NE
Grand Rapids, MI
Enter the ballpark and follow the signs back to the south parking area nearest the boathouse.
It will be about a 10 to 15-minute walk down the White Pine Trail path to get to the boathouse grounds. There is a mowed path that connects the lot to the paved trail. Be on the lookout for bikers and foot traffic.
PLEASE NOTE YOU MAY PARK HERE UNTIL 4:00PM.
TRAILER PARKING
Boat Trailers can be parked as shown. Keep tents, shells, and trailers as close as possible. Utility Trailers can be parked in the field south of the Boat Trailer area. There is a designated exit area marked with cones. Only use that exit to avoid the dips and ditches.
Trucks can be parked in Visitor Parking at the LMCU Stadium.
DO NOT sling boats behind trailers.
DO NOT move any of the large rocks along the White Pine Trail, for any reason. DO NOT block any part of the White Pine Trail with anything. At all.
The White Pine Trail is heavily used on the weekend, so please be aware of cycling and foot traffic throughout the day. For the safety of all, keep all belongings a good distance from the paved trail. Nothing can block the trail at any time. The big rocks along the trail may not be moved. You will get a visit from the park ranger and likely fined if you violate these rules.
